In Luke Chapter 5, Jesus taught the people while in a boat on the lake. When HE finished speaking, HE told Simon Peter to go out in the deep water and lower his nets for a haul. Simon Peter responded by answering Jesus and basically saying, Master, we’ve worked all night and haven’t caught anything. But because YOU say so, I will let down the nets. Now imagine what Simon Peter is thinking. I am tired and we just finished cleaning our nets after being out all night and not catching a thing. Not one single fish. And now, YOU want me to go back out and do WHAT!? Okay. Imagine the look he might have given Jesus as he is processing the request. I imagine that look of frustration. That look that says YOU do know how crazy this is, right? I imagine he probably mumbled the “nevertheless on YOUR word we will do it” part thinking I do hope YOU are going to help us clean up afterwards. So, imagine what Jesus might have been thinking. Let’s go deep, Simon. I am calling you deeper. I know it’s contrary to everything you have learned, and it is way beyond reason, but go deep with ME. Obey and trust ME. Believe in, adhere to, have confidence in MY word no matter what. Do what I have called you to do. Don’t fret. Go deeper. Break away from the mold, Simon Peter. Break away from doing things the ‘logical’ way. The way you might have been trained. The way you might normally go about doing them. Step out in faith. I know you don’t understand it but humor ME. After all, you are right, this makes no sense. Jesus might have whispered to HIMSELF, “Man, you ain’t seen nothing yet!”, while smiling from ear to ear as HE thought about all the miracles yet to come. And Simon Peter’s obedience led to a blessing exceedingly abundantly more than he could ask or imagine not only for him but for those associated with him, too. For in the end, Simon Peter caught so many fish he had to call his partners and both of their boats were filled to the brim. Much to ponder, huh? Much to ponder. Be Strengthened and Encouraged in HIM, Liz Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways submit to HIM and HE will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 I’m back. The break was definitely much longer than I anticipated. Sorry. I had surgery the beginning of March. I didn’t think much about planning for downtime since i had the exact same surgery six months ago and i was up and at ‘em within two days. Well, let’s just say that didn’t happen.
Good news though, I am finally functional. So, with that said, back to blogging. Next week we will begin a new series titled “Let it be!” As always I pray that through the writings you will be blessed as God is glorified. Today, I want to share something laid on my heart just this morning as I was thinking of the significance of Easter and just how personal it is to me. Enjoy! Jesus and me Sometimes I stumble Sometimes I fall But I know I can get up Because Jesus has taken care of it all There are so many forces trying to keep me down But I know my Jesus and I refuse to be bound Because of my Jesus I no longer fret Because of my Jesus WHO paid my debt My debt for my past and all that will be So I live life moving forward Jesus and me I have realized it’s not easy Many things still haunt me But I trust in my Jesus and I know I am free Be Strengthened and Encouraged in HIM, Liz Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under Heaven given to men by which we must be saved. And that name is Jesus. Acts 4:12 NIV |
